About Tennis Elbow Pain – Lateral Epicondylitis:

Tennis Elbow Pain also broadly categorized as Lateral Epicondylitis is due to the inflammation of the muscle tendons. Tendons are thick bands of tissues that are tough in compositions and are connected to the muscles which are helpful in keeping the muscles in place and help in movements of the joints. They are placed in lower part of your elbow aiding in movements. The tennis elbow pain is not entirely due to playing tennis at the tennis court, however, if you overstress your elbow muscles in the wrong direction for longer periods of time you will start getting tennis elbow pain which is a very common type of pain reported by females mostly as the doctors receive usual complaints related to this issue in females mostly. The wrong gripping of the thumb and two fingers related activities repeatedly also results in causing such pain.

Causes of Tennis Elbow:

The onset of this pain takes time to show its intensity. The frequency of the pain develops over time as the improper movement of the elbow, thumb, index and middle fingers generates this pain in elbow. The tendons get too much stress beyond their limit to capacitate and start getting tight and swollen and resulting in pain stimulus. People who are into sports but do not consider muscle strain as serious also develop these pains over time when left ignored. Main activities that initiate tennis elbow pain are:

  • Playing tennis, squash, fencing, racquetball with gripping on to the racket with thumb and two fingers repeatedly
  • Weight lifting with improper, loosened or sharpened grip can also trigger such pains in elbow
  • People who are working as laborers, doing home chores such as moping, painting, cleaning, also develop tennis elbow pain
  • Young people develop tennis elbow pain through extensive non-stop consecutive typing for hours, or putting weight in elbow for hours
  • Knitting, raking and carpentry also cause tennis elbow

Symptoms of Tennis Elbow:

The bony knob present on the outside of your elbow starts developing pain which is one of the most common and foremost symptoms of tennis elbow pain. The bony knob can be pressed and you can feel the pain sensation on the inside curvature of the elbow also as well as the bony knob area. This pain becomes intense when you keep the arm in relaxed position while you are sleeping and on waking up the intensity is greater than when you have slept with this. Moreover, you feel pain in moving you elbow up and down and at a specific midway point when lifting up the elbow, the pain is unbearable. This is due to the injured tendons that are connected to the bone. If left ignored, the pain sensations start travelling to your hand and wrist.

Tennis elbow can be caused while you are:

  • Trying to lift something
  • Making a fist or grip of an object
  • Opening a door or shaking hands
  • Raising your hand or straightening your wrist or doing exercise

Diagnosis and Solution to the problem:

At My Pain Clinic we first focus on diagnosing the right problem caused to the patient through examinations, tests, some physical exercises and activities. Flexing the arms, moving the arm with objects in hand, and watching the elbow is still in place has to be observed during the diagnosis. At times, X-ray and even MRI are also needed to get to the exact diagnosis of the patients problem, as it largely affects the solution to eliminate the problem at root level.

At My Pain Clinic, our first and foremost preference is to solve the problem through NON-SURGICAL TREATMENTS which include:

  • Keeping the arm and elbow at rest giving off much time to the tendons to get back to their normal position
  • Exercises to soothe the taut tendons to make them at ease and in their recovery position
  • Oral medication which are Anti-inflammatory and non-steroidal including aspirin and ibuprofen
  • Physiotherapy
  • Elbow brace

Our expert doctors at My Pain Clinic try to get the patients back in their normal lifestyle with the best advanced methods and completely reliable exercise plans and medication that eradicate the pain from the root level

I love my pain clinic Dr. Khalique. I wish I would have had him before I had my back surgery, I might not be having the complications I have now.He gives me great advice and service. The employees are great as well, I always feel like a family member here. I would recommend him to anyone with back problems.

From the front desk to the visit was a great experience. This pain Dr was very thorough and answered any question I had. Recently just got out the army and anyone that’s familiar with that job knows it beats the back and lower extremities to the ground. I was given an injection in my SIJ and honestly to God it has helped tremendously. He is a great Dr and I highly recommend this office.
